Motion transmission systems
Engineering
2
What is a motion transmission system?
It is a mechanism that transmits motion from one part to another without modifying it. It can perform a rectilinear translation, a rotation or a helical motion.
3
Examples of motion transmission systems
Friction gears Gear train Pulleys and belt Chain and sprocket wheels Examples of motion transmission systems
4
Friction gears Friction gears transmit rotational motion through simple rubbing contact (also called friction) between wheels.
5
Example of friction gears
6
Gear train Made up of small toothed wheels (gears) that transmit rotational motion Used to increase or decrease the speed of a motion inside a technical object. The speed of the rotation depends on the size of the gears and the number of teeth that each gear has.
7
Example of gear train
8
Made up of two or more pulleys(friction gears) and a belt.

Chain and sprocket wheels
Made up of toothed wheels (sprocket wheels) connected by a chain.
