Stuff to know about high school…
Modified Block Schedule Testing (finals, STAAR, PSAT, ASVAB, SAT, ACT) Regular, Pre-AP or AP Classes PE or Athletics Transcript – Permanent Record

Modified Block Schedule
8 periods but over two days Some classes meet both days, and some meet every other day.

Testing Final exams each semester STAAR
(English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, US History) PSAT (fall) for 9th – 11th grades ASVAB for 11th grade TSI SAT (spring) for 11th grade

Please read through the Pre-AP/AP materials in your packet and discuss this with your family and current teachers Advanced courses are available in the core academic areas, as well as elective areas AP Human Geography and AP Computer Science Principles are available to freshmen

PE or Athletics? Must have 1.0 credit to graduate
Most students take one or the other their Freshmen year PE meets every other day Athletics meets every day, must try out and meet UIL requirements

Transcript PERMANENT record of all of your classes and state assessments (STAAR) All colleges, scholarship entities, military, and even some employers require a transcript.

Distinguished Level of Achievement
Important: The Distinguished Level of Achievement is required for automatic admission to state 4 year colleges. The new Distinguished has only one requirement over “F+E”: Algebra II

Choosing an Endorsement…
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Business and Industry Arts and Humanities Public Service Multi-Disciplinary (Endorsements can be changed. Some students will earn more than 1 endorsement, but at least 1 is required for graduation)

What if I still don’t know?
Most Freshmen take: English I Math (Algebra 1 or Geometry) Science (Biology) Social Studies ( World Geog.) Foreign Language PE or Athletics Fine Art An Elective in a pathway Choose the Multidisciplinary Endorsement for now…you and your counselor will review it during your freshman year. The Multidisciplinary Endorsement allows for flexibility.
