Spiritual Gifts 1 Corinthians 12
2
2 Timothy 1:6-7 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
3
1 Corinthians 12
4
1 Corinthians 12:7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
6
We need the Word and the Spirit:
Word – Spirit = dry up Spirit – Word = blow up Word + Spirit = grow up
8
Spiritual gifts should:
Reveal God’s heart Strengthen believers Sign to unbelievers
9
Message (word) of wisdom
Divine revelation of the will, plan, or purpose of God for a specific situation. Example: Acts 27
10
Message (word) of knowledge
Specific fact about a person, place, or event that was not obtained through natural means (i.e. name, occupation, birthplace, birthday, details about their past history, or other information about them) Example: John 4
11
Faith Firmly persuaded of God's power and promises to accomplish His will and purpose and to display such a confidence in Him and His Word that circumstances and obstacles do not shake that conviction Example: Acts 14:18-10
12
Gifts of healing to be used as a means through which God makes people whole either physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually Example: James 5:13-16, Mark 16:17
13
Miracles to be enabled by God to perform mighty deeds which witnesses acknowledge to be of supernatural origin and means Examples: Feeding 5,000; Lazarus; paralytic man
14
Prophecy speaking God’s message to his people (words, vision, Scripture, song, etc.) Examples: Acts 11:27-28; Acts 21:10; 1 Cor. 14:3
15
Distinguishing of spirits
to clearly distinguish truth from error by judging whether the behavior or teaching is from God, Satan, human error, or human power Example: Acts 16:17-18
16
Speaking in tongues to speak in a language not previously learned so unbelievers can hear God's message in their own language or the body can be edified Example: 1 Corinthians 14
17
Interpretation of tongues
not a direct translation but explanation of what was said so that everyone can understand it Example: 1 Corinthians 14
18
1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
19
Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
