Providing quality affordable housing opportunities for all New Mexicans since 1975.

2 Current Issues: At MFA, “Special Needs Households” are considered a priority area for developers to service in New Mexico. State cut funding for Local Lead Agencies (LLAs) , now developers must be more creative in their approach to serve these great needs. MFA’s competitive LIHTC program can help developers achieve these goals for the state. Providing quality affordable housing opportunities for all New Mexicans since 1975.

3 2018 updates to scoring criteria regarding households with special needs

4 Must also submit a Service Coordination Budget and Certification
Project Applicants requesting consideration for points for Project in which units are reserved for Households with Special Housing Needs (Scoring Criterion no. 9) are required to submit a Service Coordination Plan Must also submit a Service Coordination Budget and Certification Details are provided in the QAP Providing quality affordable housing opportunities for all New Mexicans since 1975.

5 Criterion 9: Special Housing Needs (0-15 points) NEW from 2018
Service Coordination Certification required + proposed budget; required to score at least five points Additional 10 points available for deeper services Providing quality affordable housing opportunities for all New Mexicans since 1975.

6 Additional Bonus Points
Food Pantry Onsite +2 points Free Transportation + 5 points Health Promotion/Wellness classes +3 points Case Management Services +5 points Providing quality affordable housing opportunities for all New Mexicans since 1975.

7 Don’t Forget: All three set asides (special housing needs, senior housing and households with children) are required to: Comply with Fair Housing Act requirements; Services must be provided through-out entire affordability period; and Owners may not allow for more than a 30 day gap in service. 8 Call to Action Our end goal is to expand housing for residents with special needs Providing services to households with special needs is not more complex than providing to seniors or children Developers giving priority to housing for special needs can widen the populations served Providing quality affordable housing opportunities for all New Mexicans since 1975.
