A report by Skye Blades

Book Title: Serial Killers: 101 Interesting Facts and Trivia About Serial Killers Author: Jack Rosewood Publisher: Wiq Media Copyright Date: 2016 About

Summary In his book, Serial Killers: 101 Interesting Facts on Serial Killers, Rosewood tells us over a hundred facts on the serial murders throughout the years. This ranged from the twisted acts of serial killers during their kills, their last words, and some of the roles they played in the study of serial killers.

MASS MEDIA and SERIAL KILLERS

Like the movie Saw, David Parker Ray who is also known as the Toy-Box Killer, was a serial murderer who had a $100,000 homemade chamber in his mobile home. This is where he tortured his victim while recording himself telling his victims what horrific things he was going to do to them. Movies such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Silence of the Lambs, and The classic, Psycho by ALfred Hitchcock, are based on the life and murders of Ed Gein who killed two women and robbed many graveyards to collect body parts such as vulvas and nipples. Police found an odd collection of items in his home such as a belt made of nipples, a chair made of skin and a box of female vulvas.

An American metal band called Macabre ensured that the serial killer Edmund Kemper would never be forgotten by making a tribute song to him called “Edmund Kemper Had a Horrible Temper” in their album, Sinister Slaughter.

Case Studies Covered by Rosewood

Edmund Kemper Kemper, known as the Co-Ed Killer had applied to become a state trooper but was rejected because of his weight and height. He had an IQ of 145 which is considered genius. He hung out in the Jury Room talking about his own crimes. He cut up his victims (young college women) into pieces and toss their body parts in areas around Santa Cruz. He used their decapitated heads for sexual pleasure. Kemper was also a cannibal. He also killed his paternal grandparents, his mother and his mother’s best friend. He despised his mother since he was 8 years old. As a result, he felt his urges to kill was satisfied after killing her and turned himself in.

Leonarda Cianciulli Leonarda was a Italian serial murderer in World War II. She had a typology of a visionary serial killer as she claimed that she had a vision that only human sacrifices would protect her son from death during the war. She butchered women and infused their remains into soap and tea cakes that she sold in her shop.

John Wayne Gacy Gacy was the captain of the Democratic Party at the local precinct. He murdered 33 boys and young men and buried most of them in his crawlspace in his home outside of Chicago. His wife Carol who lived with him only asked her husband about the smell once. He claimed that it was mice. She believed him and never asked again.

William Heirens Heirens grew up in a seemingly stable home with a normal childhood. He was considered the most popular boy in in University of Chicago in the 1940s. He was considered handsome, and a good dancer. He burglarized 300 homes and murdered 3 innocent people. When the police searched his home, they found a stolen copy of a book called “Psychopathia Sexualis” a study written in 1886 by Richard Von Krafft-Ebing. He died after 65 years behind bars.

Javed Iqbal Iqbal was a Pakistani serial killer who murdered 100 children. He got rid of their remains by placing them in vats of acid. In court he was sentenced the following statement by the judge, “ You will be strangled to death in front of the parents whose children you killed. Your body will then be cut into 100 pieces and put in acid, the same way you killed the children.” However, Iqbal killed himself in his cell before his punishment.

Victimology of Other Serial Murderers

Robert Berdella (the Kansas City Butcher) - brutally raped, tortured and dismembered 6 young male prostitutes. He provided a 720 page long confession to the investigator, which detailed each of his murders. Gary Ridgway (Green River Killer) - made his career to kill female prostitutes. He was tried for the deaths of 48 women.

Harvey Glatman (Lonely Hearts Killer) - posed himself as a professional photographer to lure people who wanted to have a model career. Instead, he took pictures while murdering them. Joseph Paul Franklin (The Racist Killer) - he was racist and turned his hatred into murder. He killed Jews, Blacks and interracial victims.

The aim of this book is to inform you about several interesting factors on the study of serial killers. There are many other factors listed in the book itself that I did not write about.
