It is developed from endodermal cells of floor of pharynx
It begins as diverticulum at dorsum of the tongue between tuberculum impar and hypobranchial eminences Elongation of thyroid diverticulum to form thyroglossal duct. It elongate downwards infront of hyoid bone and thyroid cartilage here it ends dividing into two parts. Ultimobranchial body gives parafollicular cells to thyroid gland. At the 3rd month thyroid start to produce colloid and some thyroxin.

Fate of thyroglossal duct
all rights are reserved Fate of thyroglossal duct Upper end of the duct remains as foramen cecum on dorsum of the tongue. The duct degenerate from foramen cecum and hyoid bone The duct from hyoid bone to divisions of the duct form levator glandulae thyroideae and may be pyramidal lobe Divisions of the duct form lobes of thyroid gland with isthmus in between. Thyroid tissue derived from endoderm. And parafollicular cells of the thyroid are derived from neural crest. all rights are reserved

Thyroglossal duct cyst
Presents as an anterior midline neck mass that moves with swallowing or protrusion of the tongue.
