Type of audience My audience needs to be an active audience as this is to raise awareness and bring this everyday issue to an end. For this to happen the documentary I create has to be interesting to all ethnicities, ages and NRS social grades. It also cannot be biased or it would be impartial. I am trying to create a professional documentary which the audience take in information and act upon it. My documentary will be produced and promoted in a way that will intrigue people to be active. The message I’m portraying should not be easily accepted and let go but should allow people to question these sort of on goings.

NRS Social grade audience
For my documentary about stereotypes on youth within east London. I am aiming this documentary at people with a high status, people with more authority. The NRS social grade that I believe id like to interest is A,B,C1. This is because I feel as if these are the groups that sometimes persist the situation more than others. From some of the research I’ve done, it is shown that professionals are often the ones that receive the ideology of stereotypes. For this reason I am going to interview a person within a higher managerial or administrative status to find out the opinions of the public.

Age My target audience age wise would be from 14 upwards. I feel 14 is a good age to watch my documentary at as for young people of different races would most likely experience these issues of stereotyping. The age range would be vast as it is raising awareness so it shouldn’t only be focused on one group. I am willing to interview and include things for all ages to help bring this to an end. There is no specific age limit to watching this film as I will also be interviewing elderly. I think 14 is a good age to begin my target audience at because this is often the age in Newham when young people become independent and start going out alone or with friends. However my primary target audience is people within A,B,C1 social grade which means the age could be 50 years+

Gender & Ethnicity I find that my documentary will be more effective if it is targeted at women as I find they are more prone to stereotype based actions. Women are often seen as more sensitive, however men often the ones in Newham that continue the stereotype; especially men in skilled businesses. ‘Typing in London’ isn’t necessarily aimed at any ethnicity, its more about raising awareness for the different cultures. Newham is a borough that is very multi cultural, yet everyday there is someone racially abused or stereotyped. E.g. Upton Park is an area with many south Asian shops and mosques, this small area is often stereotyped and said to be related to terrorism due to the many Muslims walking the street.
