What is a direct object pronoun?
In English, the direct object is an object that receives the "direct" action of a verb. That means that the object that receives the “direct” action can be a noun or a pronoun. The direct object pronoun also answers the question… “whom?” or “what?” compro What’s the action? (verb) ___________________________ Yo compro el vestido. el vestido What’s receiving the action? (noun) ___________________

How are direct object pronoun used?
Direct object pronouns are used to replace direct object nouns. In English, we normally hear these replacement words as “it” o “them.” In the above example, I will replace the direct object noun (the dress) with its respective direct object pronoun. In Spanish, the direct object pronoun is placed before the conjugated verb . Yo compro lo el vestido. ( _______________________________.) I buy the dress. it.

Direct object pronouns ARE NOT for this: It costs €5. Lo cuesta €5. It is pretty. Lo es bonito. It closes at 5. Lo cierra a las cinco.

When used correctly, the sentence order of D.O.P.’s should seem a little funny. It should NOT be able to be translated in the exact same order as English. I prefer them. Yo los prefiero. Literal English: (I) Them, I prefer.
