1 Praying for Boldness Ephesians 6:18-20

2 Concerning our Spiritual Warfare
We are at war against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places We must put on the whole armor of God In our last lesson we addressed this armor – truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, hope and the sword of the Spirit – the word of God

3 Praying always (6:18) Part of our warfare as we put on the armor of God. Every successful army has effective communication – both of the enemy and strategy God has communicated with us through His word. We communicate with Him through prayer

4 Praying always (6:18) Why? 1) Because He tells us to 2) Because as we engage the enemy, we cannot do it alone. We need God on our side! Romans 8:31, 37-39 In prayer, we acknowledge to God that we need Him!

6 Praying always (6:18) With all prayer and supplication Prayer the general word for prayer Supplication – an earnest request, often with a sense of urgency In the Spirit – either our proper attitude cf. 1 Corinthians 14:15 Or in the Holy Spirit - Romans 8:26

7 Praying always (6:18) Being watchful with perseverance We cannot be flippant or sluggish Watchful – alert, sober – 1 Peter 4:7, Colossians 4:2, Mark 13:33, 14:38 With perseverance – enduring – Romans 5:3-4, 2 Peter 1:6, James 5:11

8 Praying always (6:18) Being watchful with perseverance Seldom is a war won with a single battle Jesus prayed, Paul prayer, etc. Hebrews 10:36, 12:2

9 Praying for each other (6:18-19)
Supplication for all the saints We care about the struggles others are going through. AGAIN, in battle, seldom is the conflict one on one. We are a team!

Supplication for all the saints Pray for one another – 1 Timothy 2:1, James 5:16, Romans 15:30 Brethren who are struggling with Satan personally Those fighting the battle for souls of others Even as our “allies” turn against us Prayer can enhance our fellowship

Prayers for Paul 2 Thessalonians 3:1 2 Corinthians 1:9-11 Our leaders need us praying for them!

12 Praying for each other (6:19-20)
For the furtherance of the gospel Paul is not appealing for personal comforts or benefits Prayer for utterance (wisdom with God’s word) - 1 Peter 3:15 our reason; Also, Jesus is the word – John 1:1

13 Praying for each other (6:19-20)
For the furtherance of the gospel For boldness of speech as he made known the mystery of God. When a preacher or teacher is going through difficult circumstances When elders have to deal with problem members Philippians 1:19-20, Colossians 4:2-4

14 Praying for each other (6:19-20)
Paul, an ambassador in bonds Ambassadors – were the apostles, direct representatives of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:20 We are merely messengers, representatives spreading the completed word.

15 Is prayer as important to me as it ought to be?
