Forced to leave school due to partial blindness for 3 years, unable to complete scientific training Instead went to Oxford where he received a degree in English literature Experienced in journalism, music and artistic criticism, and book reviews.

4 Received the Award of Merit for Brave New World from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1959 Wrote poems, essays, and historical pieces Satirical novels were best received; The Island was his last novel Lived in California at the time of his death in November 1963.
