4 Classification of Economic Activities
Tertiary Activities provide essential services in a complex society Doctors, dentist, hospitals Lawyers Teachers Stores, shops Banks, offices Quaternary and Quinary are high tech and specialization Administration Research

5 Weber – Least Cost Theroy
Industries will naturally locate themselves in places where they can have the least cost of production/manufacturing Distance to market Labor costs Access to resources Transportation Based on this theory, some parts of the world are likely to industrialize much more rapidly than others Some areas are likely to never industrialize

6 Weber Triangle Three factors: Transport costs: Transport costs
Labor costs Agglomeration Transport costs: One market and two sources: Equal distance and shipping costs dictates a market location Two weight-losing materials results in an intermediate location

7 Name the model or theory
Alfred Weber Least Cost theory and Industrial location theory Cheap guy/theory

8 Bulk-gaining Industry= makes something that gains volume or weight during production
Ex: Soft- Drink Bottling= empty cans are sent to bottler, filled with soft-drink, then sent to the consumer- so soft-drink bottling companies build areas near consumers because its cheaper

9 Examples Bulk-reducing industry: an economic activity in which the final product weights less than its inputs Ex: copper Industry- copper is mined, then concentrated near mining places
