Definition of a sentence
A sentence is a meaningful unit of language, complete in itself. It has at least one verb and makes sense.

It could be a Statement A statement declares facts or ideas. Example: The price of fuel has risen dramatically since 1990.

It could be a question A question is when you ask something. You must use a question mark. ? Example: Would you like to play a game of tennis?

It could be a question Tag questions are statements with a tag on the end. Example: You will buy a ticket, won’t you? They went swimming, didn’t they?

It could be a question Rhetorical question ask questions but don’t expect and answer. Example: Me? Sing on my own? You’ve got to be joking. Can’t come? That’s disappointing.

Many sentences express sudden surprise, joy or fright. These are exclamations. Example: You starting school this year, I don’t believe it!
