13 WHAT’S IN IT FOR ALL OF US?
Deter, detect and disrupt ML/TF risk and threats that affect our financial system and contribute to the growth of our economy by: Reducing the hay rather than magnifying the needle Using big data, predictive analytics and risk-tiering to identify high risk targets and reduce over-processing of low-risk cases Reducing unnecessary regulatory burden leading to reduced business costs and contributing to the growth of the economy.

18 Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it

21 Digital Disruption Disruption does not respect history…
Predicting the future by looking at the past is precisely the reason why Digital Disruption was invented Disruption does not respect history…

22 More data has been created in the past two years than in the entire previous history of the human race... Internet of Things 0.5% = ? plus times of data is analysed

23 There is quite a lot to do….
Statement There is quite a lot to do…. Death by Analysis Hands on Learning Get your head under the hood

24 I AGREE Privacy The age of Consent
Complex Outcomes Narrow Outcomes I haven’t read any of it but I AGREE Requires high trust [eg Government] Relatively low trust [eg Social Media] Low & complex consent constrains outcomes High & simple consent but unjoined actions

25 Lies, Damn Lies & Big Data Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics
Confidence Data We may have a lot more of it, and we may be able to correlate many more data sources, but will we have any greater confidence in the conclusions we draw? …. or will we just listen to the loudest data? Lies, Damn Lies & Big Data Lies, Damn Lies & Statistics

26 trust is harder to come by, and without trust there is little value.
As virtual reality becomes our reality – are we susceptible to manipulation? Technology is easy, trust is harder to come by, and without trust there is little value.

27 Disruption does not respect history 1
Three thoughts… Disruption does not respect history 1 Evaluate long-term trends, blips and predictions with equal weight The explosion of big data may overwhelm our ability to steward & make sense of it. We risk/are becoming untrusted. 2 Experiment early with frameworks for analysis – test trust-making Information overload may result in simplistic, prejudiced sound-bite responses 3 Ensure the realisation of analysis is balanced & human-centred

28 If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.
Albert Einstein
