Contain fibrin (a protein)
2nd most abundant blood cells
Characteristics:
Small pieces of cells

Makes up 55% of blood

13. Blood Disorders
Anemia: Low RBC count, Low iron in blood, not enough O2 transported
Leukemia: Disease of the bone marrow, Low WBC count, Abnormal WBC’s form
Hemophilia: No clotting factor (hereditary)

Transport blood throughout the body

15. Artery Function: Characteristics:
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
Characteristics:
Thick, elastic walls
Smaller arteries=arterioles

16. Vein Function: Characteristics: Carry deoxygenated blood back to heart
Thin, slightly elastic walls
Have Valves, prevent backflow
Smaller veins=venuoles

17. Capillary Function: Characteristics:
Exchange of materials between blood and cells
Connect arterioles & venuoles
Characteristics:
Thin wall (only 1 cell thick!)
