International Primary Curriculum:
During autumn term, Red Class will be following a unit of work called ‘All Dressed Up’ The unit of work is part of the International Primary Curriculum. In Geography, we’ll be finding out: What people wear in different countries What the climate is like in different parts of the world How the weather affects what people wear In Art, we’ll be finding out: How to create our own tartan design About symmetry in design How to make repeat patterns In Technology, we’ll be finding out: How wool is made What felt is and how it is made About different methods of fastening clothes In History, we’ll be finding out: About clothes people wore in the past In Society, we’ll be finding out: About protective and reflective clothing In International, we’ll be finding out: About the clothes people wear for special occasions How to design a school uniform

Phonics Letters and sounds is a phonics resource which aims to build children’s speaking and listening skills, as well as prepare children for learning to read and write by developing their phonic knowledge and skills. Key words: Phoneme – the smallest unit of sound in a word. Grapheme – the letter or a number of letters that represent a phoneme. Segment – the ability to split up a word into its individual phonemes (ie. s-o-ck) Blend – the ability to draw individual sounds together to pronounce a word (ie. sock) Hand outs will be available for extra information and support.

Autumn Term – Revision of phase 2,3 and 4
Phase 2 graphemes: s a t p i n m d g o c k ck e u r h Phase 3 graphemes: j w x y z zz qu ch sh th ng ai ee igh oa oo (book) oo (zoo) ar or ur ow oi ear air Phase 4: No new grapheme-phoneme correspondence are taught in this phase. Children will be consolidating their skills and blending and segmenting longer words.

Help at Home You can help your child at home by:
-Practising counting (up to and back from 100). -Reading together a variety books for enjoyment. To help, each week children will be bringing home books of their choice from our reading corner, so look out for these! - Writing their name, forming the letters correctly. - Talk homework.
