History of the Ancient and Medieval World The Age of Despair: 14th Century Folio 71v of Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry depicts Gregory leading a procession around the city to plead for respite from the plague. One of the monks has fallen to the illness. Les Très Riches Heures is a magnificent book of hours painted in the 15th century by the Limbourg Brothers and completed by Jean Colombe.
