19 How to Use the Ellipsis When you’re using a quote

20 Use an ellipsis to: Indicate words left out of a direct quotation
Original quote: “It’s the unknown we fear, when we look upon death and darkness, nothing more.” (Rowling 163). With ellipsis: “It’s the unknown we fear … nothing more” (Rowling 163). Indicate words left off the end of a direct quotation Original quote: “We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for one another” (Roth 271). With ellipsis: “We believe in ordinary acts of bravery...” (Roth 271).
