Single Sentences are NOT enough!
Research Feedback When you are completing the CONTEXT for quotes: ***BE SURE YOU ARE WRITING PARAGRAPH RESPONSES, DETAILING THE NECESSARY CONTEXT. Single Sentences are NOT enough! THINK 5 Ws First: WHO/WHAT/WHERE/WHEN/WHY Make sure you are establishing: Setting (where / when in the novel), the Speaker (who), the other characters involved in the dialogue (or internal conversation) What is happening / discussed, conflicts Many of you stop there. This will only earn you half credit.

Research Feedback (Continued)
The most important part of the significance rubric is the WHY (analysis) which many of you are ignoring / NOT completing thoroughly. I don’t want a summary/paraphrase of the quote. Too basic. You must CONNECT the quote to a LITERARY ELEMENT (see the list provided) and discuss WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTANDING SOMETHING BEYOND PLOT. THIS IS A PARAGRAPH RESPONSE. IT IS MORE DETAILED THAN THE CONTEXT.

Research Feedback (Continued)
REMINDER: Theme is not a mere idea, like love, religion, etc. When you discuss theme in your significance, you must explain the context and judgment as well, not just the stem! EX) I feel that in this quote it also fits in with the theme, religion. **Use your “Theme Is / Is Not” Handout!
