1 Santa Rosa Academy’s Catalina Island Field Trip
Santa Rosa Academy teachers: Mrs. Picquelle, Mrs. Sidhu, Mr. Granados

2 Departure Students need to arrive at the main campus no later than 5:45 am on Monday, March 10th. Bags need to be tied with orange yarn or string Medium-sized duffle and a backpack Personal items need to be kept with student (backpack) Students need to bring a sack lunch for the ferry ride.

3 More On Departure Bus will depart to the Catalina Express Terminal near the Queen Mary in Long Beach at 6:00 am. Check-in at the terminal is by 8:30 am. Ferry ride is approx. 2 hours Sea-sickness – take Dramamine and sea-sickness wristband No running or rough housing on the boat Stay seated whenever possible Pick up trash and don’t feed the gulls

4 Arrival at Catalina Students will grab the nearest bag to off-load
Most likely it will not be the students bag. Students will hike 1 ¼ mile to the camp site. Students will collect their bags and drop it off at their assigned tent. Students will be assigned to a group of 10 students Activities will begin

5 What To Bring Shoes are required to be worn at all times
Tennis shoes (walking)/sandals (campsite) Old shirts/Shorts/Sleepwear/U nderwear/Extra socks Jeans – recommend wearing Bathing suit – one piece for girls Towel/washcloth Toothbrush/toothpaste Sleeping bag Water bottle – very important!!!!!!!

6 More To Bring Flashlight Sunscreen Plastic bag (wet clothes)
Warm jacket and rain gear (large trash bags work) Stocking cap/knit gloves Hair brush Travel soap and shampoo Cameras are optional – disposable is best

7 What Not to Bring No electrical devices – no place to charge; including cell phones, blow dryers, and curling irons No chewing gum No candy or sunflower seeds Island foxes are known for stealing snacks kept at camp, even in containers No make-up – no time No valuables

8 Fun Activities Kayaking Hiking Snorkeling Tidepooling/Plankton
Fish/Invertebrates/Algae Astronomy Walk Squid Dissection Night Snorkeling - $5 per person Discovering Sharks

9 Bathroom and Shower Facilities
Near tent sites Shower with bathing suits as the showers are communal – one for boys and one for girls Recommend slippers/shower shoes Bathrooms have individual stalls and sinks Students need to keep bathrooms clean

10 Tent Site Tents are on a raised platform
Boys and girls on separate platforms- teacher on each platform Tents are off-limits to the opposite gender Tents will be shared by two students – two cots No horse-playing around the tents

11 Money There are NO STORES at the campsite.
There will be ONE day that students have the opportunity to purchase T-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts with the CIMI logo. Students should bring a check or have a teacher hold the money. No credit cards. Pre-orders are available at least three weeks in advance through Mrs. Picquelle.

13 Medical Forms and Permission Slips
First aid will be administered by a qualified individual Non-prescription medications If permission is not given, we can not give anything (even for headaches or upset stomach) Dietary conditions If medical condition occurs that requires student to be airlifted to the mainland, parents or guardians will be responsible for costs. Permission slips/Field Trip forms are required Medical Forms are required to be filled out in order to attend the field trip. All CIMI program staff are certified in First Aid/CPR and Waterfront Lifeguarding Notify if any dietary conditions Food allergies/Vegan

14 Returning to Santa Rosa Acadamy
Students should arrive back at the Long Beach Terminal on Friday, March 14 from 2:30-3:15 pm. Expected arrival at Santa Rosa is at approximately 4:30 – 5:15 pm. If you have any questions, please me at

15 Costs $ 450 per student Includes the trip, transportation, and meals (with the exception of lunch on the day of departure) You may make payment arrangements via Mrs. McLean and can use the Paypal tab on the SRA website.
