Criteria and Rationale/Reasoning
Sample Criterion: The book should be relatable. Not specific enough-Relatable to whom? Revised Criterion: The book should be relatable to teen readers because they are the audience of the Wildcat Read, and when readers can connect to a book it creates interest. Sample Rationale: Everyone should be able to somehow connect to the text to create interest. Essentially the same as the criterion. Needs to include reasoning/argument Revised Rationale: It is critical for readers to be able to relate to a book’s plot and characters because it helps develop empathy. When readers can imagine themselves in the story or in a character’s shoes, they form deep connections to what they read, and those connections create a powerful relationship between the reader and the book. Books have greater potential to move readers and change lives when readers can connect to the content. Therefore, it is imperative to select a text that readers can see themselves in.
