Explore Health Professions & Careers
Explore Health Careers Occupational Outlook Handbook Texas H.O.T. Jobs: American Association of Medical Colleges Ways to Explore Explore Health Careers: Allows you to research SO MANY different health professions; explains salary, academic requirements, and provides additional resources. This is for students who are still undecided on which healthcare field to pursue, or for students who need an alternative back-up plan. Texas H.O.T Jobs is similar to Explore Health Careers, but slightly less detailed. Occupational Outlook Handbook: Provides understanding on whether or not the profession has growth potential in the future. Also provides information on salary, the work environment, further job descriptions, similar occupations, etc. AAMC (American Association of Medical Colleges), Aspiring Docs: Provides thorough information on a career in medicine, what it’s going to take to get in to medical school, and new information on the MCAT (brand new test this year!). American Medical Association Journal of Ethics is a publication that looks at current issues, past issues, and ethics in medicine. We always encourage our students to READ as much as possible, especially about current issues in medicine. All admissions offices recommend reading as much healthcare literature as possible; not only does it keep you up-to-date and well informed, but it prepares your mind for medical school. If you practice reading large amounts of information now, you’ll be able to retain and apply information better in medical school. Importance of researching jobs right now. Preparing for them. “I just thought it was going to work out.” Due diligence.
