How do Aboriginal Peoples relate to the country?
26 December December 2018 How do Aboriginal Peoples relate to the country? Learning Objective : To investigate Aboriginal Peoples’ relationship to country Starter Activity How does your environment influence your life? Think about: - Physically - Psychologically - Spiritually - In terms of your relationships - In terms of life in general Extension: When environments change, do the people who live in them change as well? Why?
2
Creative Writing Read through the information and discuss it with a partner. Consider what it tells us about the principles underpinning Aboriginal Peoples’ relationship to the land. When you have finished, your task is to write a series of diary entries in which you imagine you are an anthropologist living with a group of Aboriginal Peoples and trying to understand how they think and feel about the land. You should aim to develop the themes from the information sheets in your work. When you have finished, share your writing with a partner and compare the different approaches you took. Give out copies of the information sheet for students to read and analyse. Extension: How might people use creative writing to explore their own experiences?
3
You Choose ‘Compare and contrast Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal relationships to the land’ Work with a partner and, building on what we have done so far, choose one of the following options: Write an essay contrasting the two relationships Design a poster in which the similarities and differences are demonstrated Create a role-play in which an Aboriginal and a non-Aboriginal person discuss their different relationships Plan and storyboard a TV documentary looking at the two different relationships Ideally, students should have access to books and/or the internet for the purposes of extra research. Extension: To what extent does land form the basis of all major conflicts?
4
Peer-Assessment Share your work with three other people in the class. In each case: Talk them through what you have done and the reasoning behind your decisions. Ask them what they feel is good about your work and why it is good. Encourage them to give you one idea for future improvement. Extension: Identify two things in your partner’s work which you could use in your own
