1 At the Upper Room Chapel
Welcome to The Miqra (The Gathering) At the Upper Room Chapel

2 Why the Follower of Messiah Should Be Torah Positive
Understanding What the Whole Bible Says About the Creator’s Law

3 The Test of a True Prophet Deuteronomy 13:1-2 Suppose a prophet or one who foretells by dreams should appear among you and show you a sign or wonder, and the sign or wonder should come to pass concerning what he said to you, namely, "Let us follow other gods - gods whom you have not previously known - and let us serve them."

4 Deuteronomy 13:3-4 You must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer, for the LORD your God will be testing you to see if you love him with all your mind and being. You must follow the LORD your God and revere only him; and you must do his commandments, obey him, serve him, and remain loyal to him. The True Prophet Always Upholds God’s Commandments

5 What did Jesus say about The Law?
Matthew 5:17-20 (NIV) "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

6 What Do the Prophets Say About the Purpose of the Coming Holy Spirit?
I will give them one heart and I will put a new Spirit within them; I will remove the heart of stone from their bodies and I will give them a heart of flesh, so that they may obey my rules (Hebrew, "chukot") and keep my right-rulings (Hebrew, "mishpatim") and observe them. Then they will be my people, and I will be their Elohim. (Ezekiel 11:19-20).

7 What Do the Prophets Say About the Purpose of the Coming Holy Spirit?
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees (Hebrew, "chukot") and be careful to keep my laws (Hebrew, "mishpatim"). (Ezekiel 36:36-37)

8 The Prophet The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, "Let us not hear the voice of the LORD our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die." 17 The LORD said to me: "What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. 19 If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. Deuteronomy 18:15-19

9 Every Word that God Has Spoken
Deuteronomy 8:2-3 Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

10 The Prophet like Moses who was to come will speak and teach all the words, commandments and instructions that have proceeded from the mouth of the Father

11 What Did Jesus Speak at the Feast of Booths?
Now at the Feast the Jews were watching for him and asking, "Where is that man?" 12 Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others replied, "No, he deceives the people." 13 But no one would say anything publicly about him for fear of the Jews. 14 Not until halfway through the Feast did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach. 15 The Jews were amazed and asked, "How did this man get such learning without having studied?“ (4th Gospel 7)

12 At the Feast of Booths Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me. 17 If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18 He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. (4th Gospel 7)

13 The Words He Spoke Were the Father’s
4th Gospel 14:10-11.Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.

14 The Words He Spoke Were the Father’s
4th Gospel 14: Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

15 Making a Distinction Between God’s Law and Man-Made Religious Law
Jesus and the Pharisees/Sadducees Matthew 15:1-20

16 What Do the Scriptures Say About God’s Law?
Psalm 19 Psalm 119: 14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. 15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. 16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

17 More About God’s Law? 24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. 40 How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness. 44 I will always obey your law, for ever and ever. 45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. 46 I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame, 47 for I delight in your commands because I love them. 48 I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees.

18 What Does Paul Say About Father’s Law
So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. (Romans 7:12) We know that the law is spiritual; (Romans 7:14)

19 Why Does Paul Say Such Negative Things About Law?
You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. Galatians 5:4 Whose law is Paul writing about?

20 Law v. Faith in Paul’s Writings
3 laws in Paul – God’s, Man’s, Flesh Faith in Paul refers to Faithfulness to God’s Law Where Paul contrasts law and faith he is contrasting obedience to man’s law with God’s

21 What’s So Wrong With Wanting to Keep Father’s Law
What’s So Wrong With Wanting to Keep Father’s Law? Obeying God’s Law does not make one a heretic, nor have they fallen from grace, nor does this make one a Judaizer, nor are these trying to earn their way to heaven.

22 The Conclusion Ecclesiastes 12: 13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.
