Homecrest Presbyterian Church Worship of the Lord’s Day August 7th, th Sunday in Ordinary Time
2
Gathering Around the WORD Call To Worship (Based on Psalm 50:1-2)
The heavens declare the righteousness of God. The earth declares God’s beauty. From the rising of the sun to its setting God’s word shines forth in glory. May God declare God’s glory upon us. Let us come and worship God!
3
Gathering Hymn # 403 “Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty”
Open now thy gates of beauty, Zion, let me enter there, where my soul in joyful duty waits for God who answers prayer; O how blessed is this place, filled with solace, light, and grace.
4
Gathering Hymn # 403 “Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty”
Gracious God, I come before thee; come thou also unto me; where we find thee and adore thee, there a heaven on earth must be; to my heart O enter thou; let it be thy temple now.
5
Gathering Hymn # 403 “Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty”
Speak, O Lord, and I will hear thee; let thy will be done indeed; may I undisturbed draw near thee, while thou dost thy people feed. Here of life the fountain flows; here is balm for all our woes.
6
Gathering Around the WORD Call to Confession Even in our faithlessness, God loves us still and waits in mercy to forgive us. Trusting in the promises given at our baptism, let us confess our sin before God and one another.
7
Gathering Around the WORD Prayer of Confession (in unison) Holy God, you promise us a life full of blessing, but we do not always believe. You incite us to hope, but we fall back into fear. You urge us to give freely, but we cling to what we have. You call us to watch at all times for you, but we grow lazy and self-absorbed. Forgive us. Increase our hope, enlarge our hearts, and keep us alert to the wonders you work in the world every day. For the sake of Jesus we pray. Amen.
8
Gathering Around the WORD Declaraion of Forgivness Hear the good news
Gathering Around the WORD Declaraion of Forgivness Hear the good news! By faith we have been saved, our guilty hearts washed clean. Refreshed, revived, and renewed, empowered by the Holy Spirit, live as ones who are forgiven and freed. Thanks be to God, Amen. Thanks be to God, Amen.
9
Gathering Around the WORD Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
10
Gathering Around the WORD Passing of the Peace of Christ
11
Proclaiming the WORD Message to the Youth/ Prayer of Illumination
12
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16)
1Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. 3By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.
13
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16)
8By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going. 9By faith he stayed for a time in the land he had been promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
14
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16)
11By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old-and Sarah herself was barren-because he considered him faithful who had promised. 12Therefore from one person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, "as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore."
15
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16)
13All of these died in faith without having received the promises, but from a distance they saw and greeted them. They confessed that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth, 14for people who speak in this way make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15If they had been thinking of the land that they had left behind, they would have had opportunity to return. 16But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; indeed, he has prepared a city for them.
16
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 12:32-40)
32"Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
17
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 12:32-40)
35"Be dressed for action and have your lamps lit; 36be like those who are waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that they may open the door for him as soon as he comes and knocks. 37Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes; truly I tell you, he will fasten his belt and have them sit down to eat, and he will come and serve them. 38If he comes during the middle of the night, or near dawn, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.
18
Proclaiming the WORD Scripture Reading (Luke 12:32-40)
39"But know this: if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour."
19

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
