Fig. 1 Faecal population counts of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from infant stools collected at different time-points. The mean population counts at different infant ages of strains resistant to penicillin G only, of strains resistant to penicillin G and other antibiotics, and of fully sensitive strains, are shown. Quantitative cultures were performed from fresh stools on staphylococcus agar as described previously [1].
