Hamilton & Burr

The Feud *Hamilton was a Federalist *Burr was a Republican
*They were political enemies and feuded from when their feud ended with a duel.

The Duel *Burr challenged Hamilton to a duel in hopes of reviving his political career. *To protect his honor, Hamilton accepted the challenge.

The Duel *They met in Weehawken, NJ on July 11th
*Both fired their weapons. Burr was not hit, but Hamilton was mortally wounded. *Hamilton died the following day and Burr’s political career was ended. He was charged with two counts of murder.

Meanwhile, Jefferson... *was 3rd President of the United States and had purchased the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon. *Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to explore the land.

*Jefferson always said that the President only had the power specifically listed in the Constitution *The Constitution does not mention the ability to purchase land

Create a statement to provide the president with your advice, should he purchase the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon? Why or why not?
