Cellular Physiology TRANSPORT
2
Passive Membrane Process
Movement of molecules without energy. (no energy involves)
3
A. Diffusion The movement of molecules from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. (no energy involved)
5
B. Facilitated Diffusion
High → Low Diffusion helped by a carrier molecule No Energy For Big stuff like glucose
7
C. Osmosis The movement of water from a high concentration to a lower concentration through a membrane.
8
Osmosis 1. Hypertonic: More strength of solute outside of Cell. Higher concentration of water inside the cell then outside. Water moves outside the cell, causing the cell to shrink.
10
Osmosis 2. Hypotonic: Less strength of solute outside the cell. There’s a higher concentration outside the cell then inside, so water moves into the cell causing it to swell.
12
3. Isotonic: Equal strength of solute and water outside & inside of cell.
15
Quiz yourself
16
D. Filtration Water + molecules = forced across membrane because of pressure.
