1 Parts of a scope Eyepiece(Ocular) Coarse Adjustment Fine Adjustment
Objective Lens Arm Stage Diaphragm Mirror(Light source) Base

2 EXAMINING A SPECIMEN 1. Align the slide over the hole in the stage.
2. Click the lowest power objective into place. Start with the tube at the bottom and focus stage down slowly using the coarse adjustment. 3.Use the fine focus adjustment to further sharpen the image. 4.The microscopes should be parfocal. Once a specimen is clear under low power, it should already be focused under high power also.

3 Troubleshooting 1. Is there an adequate amount of light? Too much? Too little? 2.Is the objective clicked in? 3.Is the specimen moving? 4. Is the specimen large enough? 5. Did I start with the tube at the stage and focus stage down under scanning power?

4 Clean Up 1. Return all slides and supplies to the correct area.
2. Clean the stages and lenses with lens paper. 3. Click in the scanning powered lens so that the microscope is ready for use by the next person. 4. Return the tube to the bottom using the coarse adjustment. 5. Return the microscope using the two-handed carry.
