Jump Start - What it Includes
The Jump Start Program is a downloadable PDF document from the USPS BOC Web Site. Included: Protocol for Planning and Conducting Training Script for Interviews Recommendations for Exercises Student Checklists and other material Not Included Student Course Book Instructional details for skills The program provides the framework. The instructor provides the knowledge and technique.

Start with a Phone Interview Student’s Prior Experience Type of Boat, Location and Intended Use Boater’s Concerns Plan the Training Discuss Possible Training Items Agree on the scope, date and time Conduct the Training Follow the Training Plan Observe and Coach the Student Follow Up Recommend Exercises Classroom and On-Water Training Interview Plan Train Follow-up

General liability (on land) Marine liability (docks, piers, and wharves) On-the-Water liability Covers Teaching OTW Includes hull damage $250 Deductible Primary when first student or instructor boards the vessel Does not cover getting vessel to location See the Treasurer’s Department Page on the USPS Web Site for full details pm the insurance program.

How do you qualify for insurance?
Plan and document the training prior to the event Executive Committee Minutes Squadron officer s Newsletter Follow an approved on-the-water curriculum or guide Vessel Safety Check Life jackets worn at all times Weather check Dockside safety briefing Note: Member boats should always be insured, but USPS insurance will become primary during approved training.

Do I need a Coast Guard License?
Under certain circumstances, a USCG license is required, but you can easily avoid these situations A license is not required if there is no fee involved (fuel costs may be shared). If you train the student on their boat, a license is never required. See the our presentation on USCG licensing for more information:
