When you compare two things, you are stating what they have in common, how they are alike. SIMILARITIES “Jack and Annie are both curios and like to learn about new things.” “Alexander and Addy wore the same RES sweater today.” “We eat dinner at 6:00 also.”

When you contrast two things, you are identifying how they are different. DIFFERENCES “Annie is 7 years old. How, Jack is 8 ½.” “While Sully is outgoing, Boo is more timid.” “Andrew ate a sandwich for lunch while Katie ate spaghetti.”
