Windows 8.1 Start Screen *Before Training: Go to Atomic Learning and find the “Introducing the Windows 8 User Interface” Tutorial and save to favorites. Go Live. Link from Logo to play Atomic Learning Tutorial: Introducing the Windows 8 User Interface. Instructor compares their customized Start Screen to new user Start Screen. Teach the Windows Key shortcut to navigate back and forth from Desktop to Start Screen. Open an App on the Start Screen, Go to your Desktop or Swipe Up to Get to Your Apps. Go to Apps Screen.

APPs Screen Go live to demonstrate pinning apps to Start Screen and Taskbar. Have participants practice pinning an app and customizing it on the Start Screen. Pin Outlook to Taskbar. Touch and hold or right click to pin apps to the Start Screen or Desktop Taskbar.

Manage your wireless, volume, screen brightness. Personalize your PC.

Charms Click on Devices > Project to see presentation options
Manage your presentation settings. Depends on the work you are doing. Choices for Screen, SMARTBoard, or 2nd Monitor Duplicate or Extend for SMARTBoard. Keyboard Shortcut = Windows Key +P

Printers View installed printers Set default printer
Search for printers from Start Screen. On Start screen – type Printer, select Devices and Printers from search results. Right click to set default printer.

PSD Network Access Local PC Drives Network Drives (C:) Local Disk
(D:) DVD Drive (E:) SDHC Drive Network Drives (U:) User folder (S:) Student Folders (Y:) Shared folder Review and Explain Local and Network Drives. Go Live. Show “This PC” Window and go through sections. Green = Home/Blue = Network 4. Discuss Reasons for Saving Work to U: Drive File Security Access from any district location or from home on your PSD laptop Multiple daily backups at ITC

Citrix Receiver From home you can access:
Work saved on PSD network drives A virtual PSD desktop experience Use Citrix at work when you have a software problem or a problem with a web-based application. Citrix is a tool that allows users to access applications and documents saved to network drives from their PSD laptops when they are away from the district.

Citrix Login At Home: At School Open Citrix from Start Menu
Login with PSD credentials At School Open Citrix from Start Menu You are automatically logged into Citrix with your network login (Add psd\ to username if prompted) Login to Citrix with psd\ only when away from district network.

Citrix : Add Apps Go live.
Click on All Applications to add apps to your Citrix Screen. Have participants practice adding and removing apps. Have participants Add Windows 7VDI. These apps will now appear each time they log in.

Windows 7vDI Provides a “virtual desktop”
Access to PSD Network Drives through Start > My Computer Windows 7VDI is a Citrix option. VDI stands for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. Go Live and Open Citrix. Open Windows 7VDI. In this window, “My Computer” is really a virtual computer. Anything saved to the virtual desktop will not be available on your laptop’s desktop/hard drive. When working in this environment, all work should be saved to the (U:) drive/User Folder. Work saved to the desktop of the virtual computer will be available in the desktop folder of the U: drive.

CiTrix: Remote Access Optional Content
Log in to the PSD Network from any computer with Internet access Windows 7VDI is also an option through Remote Access/Citrix Client. Directions to install and access Remote Access are available on the Tech Services web page when you are logged into Edline. Same rules apply. Log in with your PSD username and password

Go to your pinned apps or the Windows 7 VDI Windows 7VDI and Apps though Citrix Remote Access. Same rules apply. “My Computer” is really a virtual computer. Anything saved to this desktop will not be available on your laptop desktop. When working in this environment, all work should be saved to the (U:) Drive/User Folder. Saving to the Virtual Desktop will actually save the work to the “Desktop” folder within your User Folder/U: drive.

Playing DVDs To play a movie: Insert movie into DVD player.
Go to This PC (File Explorer or Windows Key + E) Double click on the DVD Drive (D:) Icon Your movie will begin playing with VLC Media Player Preferred way to play a DVD. You can still burn data to DVDs through File Explorer or Right Clicking on File and Sending to DVD Drive.

Outlook 2013 Optional Content Use Outlook app on laptop
Use Outlook Web Access on non-PSD computer Desktop Display Notifications Check Names Feature Full Functionality with Outlook Application. Limited functionality on OWA. Go Live to Turn off Desktop Message Display Alerts to avoid classroom interruptions. File> Options> Mail > Message Arrival. Uncheck Display a Desktop Alert. Have participants open a New Mail message and begin to type a name in the address window. Names will not autocomplete. Demo the Check Names feature to look up names in Outlook Address Book. Mention Outlook Guide to be posted on Tech Services website and Atomic Learning Videos. Tech Services > Easy Guides and How-Tos.
