Less relinquished and dumped dogs Less dogs being PTS in pounds and rescues Less dogs being PTS in vet practices More behaviour resource within DT centres, lessen the pressure on TBAs Become the leading voice in training and behaviour within the UK

3 The Dog School Journey Early 2015 6 Dog Schools piloted providing basic obedience classes April 2016 Development of Dogs Trust Dog School began September 2016 7 new Dog Schools join the team (13 total) Early 2017 10 further teams recruited (23 total) March 2017 Official launch of Dogs Trust Dog School 20th March 2017 DogsTrustDogSchool.org.uk goes live Late 2017 Expansion of the 23 locations.

6 Training Classes

7 Course background 15 classes per week, per school
Each centre will run classes in various locations Maximum 6 dogs per class At least 2 instructors per class + volunteers Courses last 5 weeks with a free introductory session beforehand to cover body language, communication, and basic learning theory. Courses available: Puppy Life Skills (NB: puppies must be 16 weeks or under at time of first class) Rescue Dog Life Skills Adult Dogs £50 per course, £40 for Dogs Trust Dogs or dogs referred via other rescue centres.

8 Content of classes A focus on learning for life
Teach dogs how to be confident, calm, relaxed, and happy and create trusting relationships with owners. Socialisation (with dogs and people) Habituation (new situations, sounds, objects) Handling Settle Manners Loose lead walking Preventing and overcoming problem behaviours with positive, reward-based methods Basic Obedience Sit, down, recall, leave, loose lead walking, jumping up Preventing and overcoming problem behaviours with positive methods

9 Behaviour Seminars & Workshops
Could add more here about topics / timings etc

10 Seminars Seminars will be run about once a month by the Dog School teams. Various locations in and around the rehoming centre and catchment area of each Dog School. Aimed at owners and other members of the public, rather than at behaviour experts Tickets sold to public by Dog School staff. Example topics: Separation anxiety Preparing your dog for fireworks night Puppy socialisation Staff welcome to attend when rotas allow. Carolyn Menteith, a behaviourist, will also be running seminars at all Dog Schools with tickets available to the public.

11 1-2-1 Consultations Stress that it isn’t the main focus of Dog School.

12 1-2-1 Consultations Training consultations – for owners who need a little extra help with general training , or whose dogs struggle with the class environment e.g. Recall Loose-lead walking Manners at the door 1-2-1s are not the main focus of Dog School – our vision revolves around the prevention of problem behaviours but Dog School recognise that there certain dogs and owners that will need more attention than others.
