The Graphical Method Write a list of procedures for adding vectors graphically. Check with a partner to see if your procedures are in order and that you are not missing any steps. Objective(s)/SWBAT (Students will be able to): Add vectors using the graphical method Activities: Several examples of vector addition. Closure: Add 2 vectors analytically Assessment: Problem set Test Keystones: 3.2.B
2
Graphical Method Graphically determine the resultant of the following force vectors. 26 43° 31 133° 28 265° Keystones: 3.2.B
3
Sketch Keystones: 3.2.B 31 N @ 133° 26 N @ 43° 28 N @ 265°
These are drawn tail to tail as if it is three strings tied together and people are pulling in different directions. Keystones: 3.2.B
4
Draw tail to head Keystones: 3.2.B 31 N @ 133° 28 N @ 265° 26 N @ 43°
Translate each vector so that they are drawn tail to head. 26 43° 13 112° Keystones: 3.2.B
5
The Graphical Method Find the net force acting on the block.
N=111 N F=120 N The trick is to find the angle that each vector point on the x-y plane from the geometry. W=136 N θ=35° Keystones: 3.2.B
6
Graphical Method Place the finished product in the bin when you are finished. Keystones: 3.2.B
