Political Political maps show man-made boundaries between countries, cities, and/or states The term “State” can refer to a country or a US state like you are familiar with. You will need to pay attention to context to differentiate. The term “Nation” can mean a country or simply a group of nation (example the Cherokee Nation.)

Political Maps This map shows the boundaries of the UNITED STATES. It also shows boundaries of each US state and major cities. These are man-made borders, but may follow natural features. (What is the boundary between OK and TX?)

Political Maps This map shows the boundaries of the country called CANADA. It also shows boundaries of each “Province” (like a US State) and cities. These are man-made borders, but may follow natural features.

Physical Maps Physical maps show natural features or parts of nature that have been changed by man. Mountains (elevation) Rivers Basins BOW (Bodies of Water)

Thematic maps show a region of the world and have a “theme” to them (other than political or physical.) What types of “themes” might a map have on it? Rainfall Climate Population Population density
