1. The Basic Essay
Social cliques can cause many problems for students in high school. Write a 5 paragraph essay answering the question:
What is your opinion about social groups?
Consider your reading and the following questions:
Are social groups important to kids at Brantley?
Is there any advantage to belonging to a particular social group?
What are the different social groups in your school?

2. How many paragraphs? The basic essay has 5 paragraphs.
The introduction
Three body paragraphs
The conclusion

3. The Introduction
The introduction should introduce the topic and give some BASIC background information.
It should also contain a thesis.
Thesis- a sentence that summarizes all of your essay.
For example: In my opinion, social groups can help students feel like they belong and give them a support group, but students should be careful about which groups they enter and why.

5. Use the questions on page 578 to help you write your introduction paragraph. Remember: Five to Seven Sentences Correct Grammar Don’t start with And, But, Because until you are an experienced enough writer to use them correctly Try not to use the words like, so, or very Use at least two compound or complex sentences

6. What are the three major points of your essay?
Write three body paragraphs.
Make sure each paragraph has a main idea sentence and that idea is the only idea discussed.
Make sure that your three major points are DIFFERENT points

7. Write a conclusion Why is all this important? What should be done?
