This is approximately $1000 more than it costs to live as a single person without children!

Announce the winner of the game. Give this person/team a round of applause.
Tell students that they’ve learned a lot about what certain items or services cost to raise a child, and how much it costs as a single parent:
~$2500/month for a single parent to pay for housing, childcare, medical expenses, transporation, etc, which would mean that a parent would need to earn about $17 an hour (or $33,800 per year).
Minimum wage will be $7.25 per hour or $14,500. Most teen parent with few job skills and no experience would only be able to earn minimum wage.
Ask, “Where would a single teen parent get the additional money that would be needed to support herself/himself and the child?” Answers might include:
Get additional training to obtain higher paying job
Get money from family members
Family or friends provide childcare
Get public assistance (food stamps, Medicaid, etc)
Have non-custodial parent pay $$ (child support)
