Handbook It’s VERY IMPORTANT to make good choices in and out of school. Remember that playing high school sports is a privilege, not a right. MSHSL: No use of tobacco, alcohol or non-prescription drugs. If a violation occurs during the season and you are a captain, you will lose your captainship. A violation could also affect your future playing time and ability to receive awards. Classroom: As a football player you are expected to act with class. Make sure that you’re attending class and handing in your assignments. If you’re struggling with the topic make sure that you’re asking questions or getting help. If a teacher sees that you’re putting in the time, turning in your work and listening during class they are going to give you the benefit of the doubt. Detention is not acceptable and will be dealt with on an individual basis.

Practice Hustle is the name of the game! When we’re in the weight room or on the field we want to be focused and hustle in everything we do. Make sure that you have the correct practice gear. Thursdays will be Substitution Drill - You’ll need your helmet, cleats, practice jersey and either shorts or sweats. Every member of the football team is important. For us to improve and to become a competitive football team we need ALL players at practice. If you’re unable to make it to practice because of an illness then you need to let one of the coaches know as soon as possible. 1st Unexcused Absence: Player, Coach Meeting – Spin on the wheel 2nd Unexcused Absence: Coach, Player and Parent Meeting – Spin on the wheel 3rd Unexcused Absence: Dismissal from the team – This is not a priority for you. Missing practice to do school work or detention is not an excused absence. School work can be done after practice, before school or in study hall. We as coaches understand that you’re a student athlete, but it’s importan that you’re at practice to make yourself better as well as your teammates. Choosing to play athletics is a great privilege, but you need to make sure that you learn how to manage your time. You are expected to attend practice if injured. We want you there to watch and listen, so when you return from injury you are up to speed.

Other Chain of Command: Player – Coach
Player and Parent meet with Head Coach Player, Parent and Head Coach meet with AD Parents, avoid questions beginning with “Why” when discussing your son. Questions should begin with “What” or “How”. Please use the Hudl to watch film of yourself and of the opponent. It’s a great tool! We encourage you to play other sports. Being in a competitive environment is going to make you better. If you choose not to be in another sport, you’ve made a decision to spend your time in the weight room. Getting together with other members of the football team and competing in the weight room is also a good choice! You are responsible for the equipment issued to you. You will be charged for any unreturned equipment. All equipment and personal items will be stored in a locker and LOCKED. Nothing will be left out on the floor.

Criteria: The student athlete will not have had a MSHSL violation as a Junior or Senior. The student athlete must remain academically eligible for the entire season. 2018 Captains: Trevor Gearman, Dain Haas, Wyatt Halvorson, Mason Clark and Layton Wittnebel
