3 SEMANA SANTA The period of 40 days that leads up to Easter is called La Cuaresma (Lent).

4 SEMANA SANTA The heavy floats are carried by men called costaleros.  These men have the very difficult job of carrying the extremely heavy weight of the float.

5 SEMANA SANTA The floats (los pasos) are followed and surrounded by people known as nazarenos.  The tall cone hat they were is known as capirote.

6 SEMANA SANTA This is the typical music you can hear while there are processions in the streets:

Sometimes, los nazarenos are barefoot or have chains attached to their ankles. This discomfort helps them to think about the suffering of Jesus at the time of his death.

8 SEMANA SANTA During the processions you can hear someone singing a special Easter song called una saeta.

10 SEMANA SANTA Something very typical in Semana Santa are cakes. Easter eggs are not that popular in Spain as they are in South America or other European countries, but we do have torrijas and monas de pascua. Torrijas recipe:
