Proposed water standards and antidegradation rules The following slides show how current water quality in the Iowa Great Lakes compares to the minimum water quality standard being proposed by the Iowa DNR. The data used for these slides were collected by CLAMP volunteers and compiled by Iowa Lakeside Laboratory.

Proposed water clarity standard Standard 1.0 meter CLAMP DATA 1999-2008

Proposed Chlorophyll-a standard Standard 25 µg/L CLAMP DATA 1999-2008

Proposed Total Phosphorus standard Standard 35 µg/L CLAMP DATA 1999-2008

Proposed Total Nitrogen standard Standard 0.9 mg/L CLAMP DATA 1999-2008

Proposed water standards and antidegradation rules The current water quality in the Iowa Great Lakes often exceeds the water quality standard being proposed by the Iowa DNR. Without the adoption of the proposed antidegradation rules, water quality in these Great Lakes could be allowed to be degraded down to the standard. To learn more about the proposed antidegradation rules and how to provide public comment, go to www.iaenvironment.org/Antidegradation1.htm
