WEBSITE CREATION 3 Using Netscape Page Composer
2
Getting Started Open Netscape Navigator by clicking on the desktop icon or on the name in the Programs list.
3
Getting Started 2 Open Page Composer by clicking on Communicator in the menu bar. Then select Composer. Or press CTRL 4 if you prefer to use keystrokes.
4
Choosing a Font Design the appearance by choosing font and colors.
Click on Format in the menu bar. Click on Font. The start of the list of fonts will open. Choose a font or click on “Other” to see the entire list.
5
Choosing Colors From the Format menu, click on Page Colors and Properties. Click on each box to choose the colors for background, text, etc. Use the colors already selected or add custom colors. Click the box beside “Save these settings” to have pages with a consistent appearance.
6
Adding Text Define the headings for each of your pages
A finished page might look like this: Remember, you can change the organization later as long as this information appears on the site.
7
Defining Text Choose heading size: h2 for “Profession” and h3 for “My major/field/ discipline.” Write a brief description of your major, including your career plans. Click on link button to create link to company web site or to professional organizations you belong to.
8
ADDING GRAPHICS Place the cursor on the spot where you want the graphic to appear. Click on the image button. Fill in the fields with the filename and size of the graphic. For instance, the animated graphic I use at the end of my files is “Sisyphus.gif” and its size is 4 x 4, since it is a square. Click the “leave image in original location” box.
9
Finishing Save files created today to the W drive. This time you don’t need to put quotation marks around the filename; don’t add the extension html at the end of the file name because Composer adds that automatically. Ex. Save the file as profession, and Composer will take care of the rest.
