2 Welcome, Brave Adventurer!
This program will allow you to learn about working with files on a computer. Click on “Tutorial” to begin learning. Click on “Test” to, you guessed it, take the test. When you see an arrow in the corner, click it to move forward. Otherwise click on the screen. The home in the corner will always return you to the start. If you choose the wrong menu item, click the desk top to close it. Tutorial Test

A Filing cabinet is place for storing, well, files--papers we want to keep and maybe work on sometimes.

Files are organized into folders and put in drawers so we can find them.

Because a computer operates like a file cabinet, we know that any time we need to do something with a file, we go to the FILE menu.

We go to our filing cabinet (the FILE menu) when we want to: Create a New File Get a File out (open it) Put a File away (save it)

95 Create a New Document One kind of file is a document. A document is a file that contains your writing. Other types of files include pictures and music. Creating a new document is easy. I’ll show you how.

Then, click on “New Blank Document” (many programs will just call it “New”)

105 Saving a File Saving a document is like putting a copy of a file back into our file cabinet for safe keeping. We save when: We want to protect any changes we’ve made We want to put our file away

106 Saving a File Saving a file is pretty easy. The hard part is remembering where you saved it! At school you can save to your own private folder where your files are safe and you can always find them. I’ll show you how.

107 Saving a File First, click on “File” Then, click on “Save”

108 Saving a File A box will pop up. In this box you can give your file a name. You can also tell the computer where to put your file. Think of it as if you were putting a file in the right drawer in your filing cabinet.

109 Saving a File To put your file in your private folder, click on the icon labeled “Goliath HD”. On some computers you may need to click “Desktop” first.
