The Calvin Cycle Or the Dark Side of Photosynthesis
NOTE: ONLY WRITE DOWN THE SLIDES WITH THE BLACK BACKGROUND!!! THEY ARE A SUMMARY OF THE PREVIOUS SLIDES!
2
The purpose of photosynthesis to make sugars
The purpose of photosynthesis to make sugars. It involves a light reaction and a light independent reaction. The purpose of the light reaction is to make the energy to needed to "drive" the Calvin cycle.
3
Overview-Light Rxn 1. 18 ATP are made from 18ADP + 18P 2. Water is split. e- + H are used for #3. 6 O2 are released. 3. 12 NADPH are made.

The purpose of photosynthesis to make glucose
The purpose of photosynthesis to make glucose. It has a light reaction and a light independent reaction. The the light reaction makes the energy to needed to for the Calvin cycle to make glucose Overview-Light Rxn 1. 18 ATP are made from 18ADP + 18P 2. Water is split. H+ are used to reduce NADPH , O2 are released and e- are used in the light reaction. 3. 12 NADPH are made.

Overview of the Calvin Reaction
3 CO2 -> PGAL 9 ATP -> 9 ADP + 9 P 6 NADPH-> 6 NADP + 6 H

*Note-PGAL is a triose. In order to make glucose, a hexose, the Calvin Cycle must be run twice. Therefore, 6 CO2, 18 ATP and 12 NADPH are needed to make glucose. Calvin cycle 2X 6 CO2 -> C6H12O6 (from 2 PGAL) 18 ATP -> 18 ADP + 18 P 12 NADPH-> 12 NADP + 12 H
