Microscopes What do we use microscopes for?
To enlarge small samples which cannot easily be seen with the naked eye so that their characteristics can become visible In other words: we use microscopes to make really small stuff big enough for us to see BONUS: What is this? Baby Jellyfish (ephyra)

How a microscope works Two or more lenses are placed directly above the specimen (what you’re looking at) Light enters below the specimen (thanks to a lightbulb or mirrors) and travels through the lens Allows you to see your specimen (produces an image) The combination of different lenses allows for different magnifications

Determining Magnification
Multiply the magnification of the eyepiece lens by the magnification of the objective lens 10x 40x Example: Eyepiece: 10x Objective: 40x Total magnification: 10x40 = 400
