IDENTFICATION & PARTS OF EXTINGUISHER TYPES OF FIRE EXTINGUISHER A fire extinguisher is specially designed and is effective in putting out small fires. 3 Common types of portable fire extinguisher : a.Water b.Carbon Dioxide (CO2) c.Dry Chemical Powder
5
Suitable: - Ordinary fires eg. wood, cloth, paper Method: - Direct at fire source - Use sweeping motion - Wet thoroughly
6
NOZZLE FLEXIBLE TUBE CYLINDER CARRYING HANDLE DISCHARGE LEVER PRESSURE GAUGE SAFETY PIN BASE
7
Suitable: - Flammable liquid fires - Electrical fires Method: - Direct at base using sweeping motion and move upwards. - If possible switch off electrical supply - Direct discharge at the fire Suitable: - Flammable liquid fires - Electrical fires Method: Flammable liquid fires: - Direct at base using sweeping motion and move upwards. Electrical fires: - If possible switch off electrical supply - Direct discharge at the fire

11
a. Carry the extinguisher to the place on fire. b.Pull out the safety pin. c. Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire. d.Squeeze the grip lever firmly. e.Sweep from side to side.
12
a.Do not use water extinguishers for liquid and electrical fires. b.Keep a safe distance. c.Do not stand facing the wind direction. d.Stay out of thick smoke areas.
13
HOSE REEL SYSTEM
14
ADVANTAGES OF HOSE REEL n n One man operated ( minimal manpower ) n n Light ( easily deployed ) n n Lack of back pressure ( suitable for use by most people ) n n Easy to operate ( easily deployed )
15
ADVANTAGES OF HOSE REEL n Non-Kinking reinforced rubber about 30m long. n 9m throw ( water dispenses to length of 9m) achievable at flow rate of 0.4 litre/sec. n Hose extends to 15m to 30m
16
HOSE REEL Need to assess the type of fire and source of fire before making use of a Hose reel for putting out of fire Type of Fire Hose reel suitability Solid Material YES YES Oil Based Fire NO Gas Based Fire NO Electrical Fire NO
17
Checking of Hose Reel Check that there are no obstructions preventing the use of the Hose Reel. Check that the key to unlock the Hose Reel cabinet is housed in a housing on the cabinet.
18
USING THE HOSE REEL Checks before usage Turn on the hose reel valve before releasing the hose reel. Run out the hose Turn on water at nozzle and direct the stream at the base of the fire.
19
1. Turn ON the cock valve to let the water flow. ( Anti-Clockwise direction ) 2. Pull out the non-kinking reinforced hose.(30m long) 3. Point the nozzle down and away 4. Turn ON ( clockwise )by turning the nozzle.(0.4 ltr/sec) 5. This is to test the hose is working. 6. Deploy the Hose reel. 2 persons to deploy the hose reel recommended. Step By Step Operation
20
Standard Fire Hose Reel enclosed in red cabinet. Notice key at right corner KEY
21
Break glass covering to retrieve key Unlock the cabinet door Check Hose Reel Intact and not tangled Untangle if so.
22
Turn ON the valve to let the water flow. ( anti - clockwise direction )
23
Pull out the drum towards you. The Drum can swivel left to right.
24
Point the nozzle down and away
25
7. Turn ON ( clockwise ) by turning the nozzle. This is to test if the hose is working This is to test if the hose is working
26
Turn the nozzle to control the amount of water gushing out. Always point Nozzle down and away from you
27
Assistant to unwind the drum to extend the hose
28
Hose controller and assistant must cooperate
29
If hose winds round a corner, assistant must straighten hose and walk along hose towards Hose controller.
30
Follow hose trail. Ensure Hose straighten
31
Assistant must at all times keep hose reel in line of sight.
32
Assistant must keep Hose Controller within his view / line of sight.
33
Hose controller keep low when approaching Fire. Hand ready to twist nozzle to turn on Water.
34
Hose Reel handler and assistant must not be standing on the same side of the hose. They should be on opposite sides of the hose.
35
Ensure the hose is not curled.
36
Uncurl the hose Pull to straighten After uncurling
37
Keeping the Hose Reel
38
When keeping hose, ensure it is not entangled
39
Assistant will help to reel the hose into the drum, rolling the drum and making sure the hose does not get entangled.
40
Assistant and Hose reel controller work in tandem.
41
Cooperation is of the essence.
44
Ensure Hose is reeled in neatly.
45
Push hose reel drum into cabinet
46
Remember to shut off water supply.
47
Close cabinet door
48
Lock the cabinet and mount the key back on the key holder.
49
USING THE HOSE REEL n Method of Operations. 1. Turn ON the valve to let the water flow. 2. Pull out the non- kinking reinforced hose.(30m long) 3. ON the nozzle.(0.4 ltr/sec)

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS After turning on the cock valve, test the water flow of the hosereel by turning on the hosereel nozzle and ensure that water supply is available before pulling out the hosereel towards the fire.
