Regulation of hepatic blood flow in patients with liver cirrhosis and after liver transplantation  Klaus H.W. Böker, Axel Franzen, Michael Wrobel, Mathias J. Bahr, Uwe Tietge, Michael P. Manns  Pathophysiology  Volume 6, Issue 4, Pages (February 2000) DOI: /S (99)

2 Fig. 1 Time schedule of the study. FLBF, functional liver blood flow calculated according to formula I. Fig. 1 shows the FLBF-curve of one normal control. AUC1, area under the FLBF–time curve calculations for exercise induced decrease in FLBF, AUC 2, area under the FLBF–time curve calculations for food intake induced increase in FLBF. A bolus injection of sorbitol (2000 mg) at the start of the sorbitol infusion (0 min) was administered followed by a constant infusion of sorbitol at 50 mg/min for 10 h (up to 600 min). The dotted lines mark the steady state levels of FLBF before exercise and food intake. Pathophysiology 2000 6, DOI: ( /S (99) )

3 Fig. 2 Functional liver blood flow during exercise in normal controls, cirrotic patients and patients after OLT. FLBF, functional liver blood flow calculated according to formula I (see methods). FLBF before and after 30 min of halfmaximal exercise (outlined area, from 120 to 150 min) in normal controls (n=10), patients with end stage cirrhosis (n=10) and patients after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT, n=14) as measured by the sorbitol steady state infusion technique. The dotted lines mark the steady state levels of FLBF before exercise. Values represent mean±S.E.M. XP<0.05, significances were calculated using Student’s t-test for paired data. Pathophysiology 2000 6, DOI: ( /S (99) )

4 Fig. 3 Functional liver blood flow after food intake in normal controls, cirrotic patients and patients after OLT. FLBF, functional liver blood flow calculated according to formula I (see methods). FLBF before and after intake of a standard Italian meal (650 kcal, outlined area from 330 to 360 min) in normal controls (n=10), patients with end stage cirrhosis (n=10) and patients after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT, n=14) as measured by the sorbitol steady state infusion technique. The dotted lines mark the steady state levels of FLBF before food intake. Values represent mean±S.E.M. XP<0.05, significances were calculated using Student’s t-test for paired data.
