September 6, 2016 Warm Up (both): Work on review packet as work is being returned. HS class: Finish solubility chart WS from Friday as work is being returned TEST TOMORROW! HS Class: physical & chemical properties & changes (calculating density); states of matter & phase changes (including both diagrams); elements, compounds, mixtures (including solutions & solubility) AC Class: physical & chemical properties & changes (understanding density); states of matter & phase changes (including diagram); elements, compounds, mixtures (including dot pictures)

Being Returned Today States of Matter Quiz
Element, Compound, Mixture Quiz States of Matter GIZMO States of Matter Foldable States of Matter Thinking Map (AC only – some are hanging up) Triple Point Diagram WS (HS only) (Yes, it’s too late to turn any of these in at this point)

Key Ideas Activity A – Students determine the temperatures at which phase changes occur. Water freezes AND melts at 0oC Water boils at 100oC Activity B – Students discover that adding heat energy causes molecules to move faster. The movement of molecules explains why ice melts and water boils. Adding energy increases movement Removing energy decreases movement Activity C – Students discover how altitude affects phase changes Higher altitudes have lower pressure which changes the temperatures where phase changes occur
