1 St. John’s Church of England Primary School Newsletter
- Learning and Caring Together - Issue 5 Friday 12th October 2018 Sport! Tournament reports left, right and centre this week with the Year 5 and below footballers in action, the girls’ football team drenched and the netballers all representing St. John’s! Boy’s Tournament at Stanley– report by Mr Thomson On Tuesday, our year 5 (and below) team entered the EFC tournament at Stanley against schools from across Southport and Formby. Success was immediate with us winning our first game 1-0 against Kew Woods – our first win for….. (a very long time for the boys!). We followed this with 0-0 against OLOL, although I’m not quite sure how we didn’t score before losing 2-0 and 3-1 to OLOC and Norwood respectively. Well done to Jack for two well taken goals and some fine performances throughout. Roll on the next matches! Netball league matches – report by Miss Halsall St John's Netball team made their debut on Tuesday in the first round of matches for Autumn. Our brand new team consisted of Sadie, Ashleigh, Olivia, Luca, Emils, Emma and Alice! In our first match against BDS we took a few minutes to find our feet, but we settled in well - great movement from Alice as Centre and Emma scoring our 5 winning goals! AMAZING! First win of the season! Our second match was against Scarisbrick Hall - this was tough but we still held our own - our defence was being put to work and Sadie, Ashleigh and Olivia had to work extremely hard. A match lost but many lessons learnt. A fabulous effort from all netballers and we look forward to our next match on Thursday 18th October at Larkfield. Player of the match - Emma!  Girls’ Football Tournament at Stanley – report by Miss Lovelock and Mr Thomson Our first girls tournament went down a storm (literally)! Playing in torrential rain, the Y5/6 team displayed an outstanding performance at Stanley High School on Thursday competing against 6 other schools in the league. Our enthusiasm throughout meant we celebrated three victories, one draw and two losses. Despite playing in difficult conditions, St John’s walked away beaming with pride and ready for a hot bath. 2 goals from Lottie, 1 each from Sadie and Alice, great goalkeeping from all who shared the duty and wonderful enthusiasm from the whole team. An absolute delight for us to take to Stanley! Good luck tonight to the footballing girls who are due to be playing a league match against Birkdale Primary School – match report to follow next week! Southport FC FREE child tickets We still have a number of tickets available for Southport FC’s home match against York City tomorrow. Please come to the office tonight if you would like a ticket (or two). Donations If anybody is having a clear out over half term and feeling really generous, there are a number of items which would be really useful for us in school to use at lunchtimes and wet playtimes. Any kind of lego, complete board games, toy prams and dolls would all be appreciated. Bike It Years 2 and 5 have sessions with our Bike It Officer, Amanda, next week. Please can children bring bikes, helmets and coats, gloves etc as sessions will take place in most weather on the playground. If your child is in Years 3, 4 or 6 and they can not ride without stabilisers there are also sessions available to support your child; please return the slip but a reminder that this session is only for children who can not yet ride without stabilisers. Please see the office or Miss Halsall if unsure.
