Julius Caesar Julius Caesar was a successful military leader who stopped unfair taxes and gave land to the poor.

Julian Calendar Julius Caesar also created the Julian Calendar, which is similar to the calendar we use today.

Murder! Members of the Senate murdered Julius Caesar because they thought he was taking too much control over the government.

Civil War After Caesar's death, many rulers fought over control of the government. Some thought Rome was too big to continue being a republic. Others wanted one strong leader to stop the fighting over leadership.

Emperor Augustus Caesar
In 27 BC, Julius Caesar's grandnephew, Augustus Caesar, became the first Emperor of Rome. As Emperor, he took control over the Roman Republic government.

Pax Romana Augustus Caesar was admired for creating peace after 100 years of civil war. This time of peace was called the Pax Romana, or “the peace of Rome”.
