Eye base, or eye shadow primers, are similar to face primer but made specifically for use near the eyes. An eye base helps even the colour of the lid and upper eye area, hide eyelid veins, reduce oiliness, and mattify the eyelid. An eye base aids in the smooth application of eye shadow, prevents it from accumulating in eyelid creases, and improves its longevity. Eye base is applied to the eyelid and lower eye area prior to the application of eye shadow. They intensify the colour of the eye shadows and keep them from smearing or creasing. The effect of an eye base is not limited to eye shadows, but also work for eye liners.

Purpose of a transition colour
The purpose of this step is to seamlessly "transition" from your mobile lid or crease to highlight shadows. Shadow colour used for this step depends on skin tone and the look you want to create, but is usually a warm shade slightly darker than your natural skin tone and blended along the brow bone.

The "mobile lid" is the entire space that covers your eyeball. The purpose of this step is to add colour if so desired. In a typical 3-step application, this is usually the medium shade. Shimmer or glitter is also often applied here.

Purpose of the crease shade
The purpose of the crease shade is to create depth and dimension. It usually the darkest shade and is placed in the shape of a sideways "v" (<) on the outer mobile lid and blended into the crease. The crease is identified as the space along the edge of the brow bone where the eye socket meets the mobile lid.

Purpose of highlight shade
The purpose of the highlight shade is to accentuate and lift the eye. The lightest (matte or pearl) shade is used here and is placed at the highest point of the eye, just underneath the eyebrow. A small dab is also placed along the inside corner of the eye, near the tear duct.

Apply eye base all over the lid. Using a fluffy crease brush, apply "Native" eyeshadow to the transition between the crease and brow bone.
Step 2:
With a detailing contour brush, apply "Aubergine" eyeshadow to the eye socket area and lower lash line. Blend well.
Step 3:
Using a flat brush, apply "Raven" to the lid and slightly past the crease. Use patting motions to avoid fallout.
Step 4:
Using the detailing brush from step 2, blend out the harsh edge of "Raven" adding a bit of "Aubergine" to soften the gradient.
Step 5:
Line the entire waterline with "Black Magic" waterproof eyeliner and smudge some on the lower lash line.
