This week’s theme: What is a Jungle?
Math
ELA
While we discuss patterns everyday in our morning meeting when we review the calendar, now we are pattern detectives! We are searching for patterns in everyday objects and learning to extend the pattern.
Our trade book for the week was Amazing Jungle. This non-fiction book explained that the jungle is divided into three layers: the canopy, the understory and the forest floor. We read about some of the animals that live in each layer. We also learned about the jungle climate.
Our vocabulary words for the week were:
branch, color, hot, jungle, leaf, and trunk.
Handwriting
Our letter of the week was letter R.
Science
In Science we have been discussing winter weather, the types of clothing we need to protect our bodies and how some animals hibernate during the winter.
Social Studies
We have begun to talk about Presidents Day. The children were introduced to George Washington through a mini book that was sent home during the week.
Religion .
News & Reminders
Scholastic book orders are due by this Friday if you wish to place an order.
Valentines should be addressed to each member of the class and sent in asap!
Registration forms for the school year are due to the office by this Tuesday, February 13th, 2018.
In Religion we learned that God created air. We discussed some of the uses for air such as breathing, making bubbles, flying a kite, etc.
The children created paper kites by decorating it with pictures they drew themselves. .
